Rewind.

WE ARE REWIND is the story of two high school friends, Romain and Matthieu, who, somewhere between two Spotify playlists, realized something was missing.
Music isn’t just meant to be heard.

It’s meant to be touched. Seen. Felt.
The click of a lid, the press of “play,” the tape starting to spin, the soft hiss between tracks… that’s when something happens.
No notifications. No scrolling. Just music — and nothing else.
— What if we made cassette players again?
— Are you serious?
— Absolutely.
But making it happen wasn’t easy.

Building a proper cassette player in 2021 meant starting from scratch. Most factories had shut down, and only a handful of low-end mechanisms were still available.

So we went further.

We teamed up with two French engineers who spent over 30 years at Thomson — true analog sound experts. They pushed a basic motor far beyond its limits, replacing key plastic components like the flywheel with precision metal parts.

We also collaborated with a French designer, inspired by Dieter Rams, to create an aluminum body that matches the engineering inside — minimal, elegant, and built to bridge analog and digital worlds.

Because yes, we wanted Bluetooth too.
And no, it wasn’t simple.
Wireless signals bouncing inside an aluminum case tend to interfere with magnetic tape… It took months of additional R&D to get it right.

In the end, it took more than 3 years of work, a global pandemic, and a Kickstarter campaign to bring this project to life.
Today, we’re proud of what we’ve built.

Because we believe in sound, in design — but above all, in meaning.

Objects that don’t just replay the past, but make you want to truly listen again.

We didn’t invent the cassette player.

But we reinvented it.
